Story
Team Steve is making a difference and walking over 60km through the Tasmanian wilderness to raise awareness and much needed funds for Gastro-Intestinal (GI) caner research.
Prof. Steven Ackland, a current Board member of the GI Cancer Institute, is leading this team on their Gutsy Challenge.
Each of the team are trekking for a cause close to their heart. Collectively they are hoping to raise over $30,000. These funds will be directed towards the GI Cancer Institute's Innovation Fund grant.
This grant is provided annually to support early stage research, proving up new treatments, with a view to collating the data needed to proceed on to a larger scale clinical trial. With GI cancers still having a 5-year survival rate below 50%, research in to new treatments is critical to improving outcomes for the 24,600 Australians diagnosed every year.

Gastro-Intestinal (GI) cancer is the most common form of cancer claiming a devastating 51 lives each day. At the GI Cancer Institute, our vision is to create a world free from GI cancers.
