Story
Team Russell is making a difference and walking over 60km of the Overland Track in November to raise awareness and much needed funds for Gastro-Intestinal (GI) cancer research.
Russell Conley, Chief Executive Officer of the GI Cancer Institute, is leading this team on their Gutsy Challenge.
Each of the team are treking, with full 18kg packs, for a cause close to their heart. Collectively they are hoping to raise over $30,000. These funds will be directed towards the GI Cancer Institute's Innovation Fund grant.
This grant is provided annually to support early stage research, proving up new treatments, with a view to collating the data needed to proceed on to a larger scale clinical trial. With GI cancers still having a 5-year survival rate below 50%, research in to new treatments is critical to improving outcomes for the 24,600 Australians diagnosed every year.

Gastro-Intestinal (GI) cancer is the most common form of cancer claiming a devastating 51 lives each day. At the GI Cancer Institute, our vision is to create a world free from GI cancers.
