Story
Facing your greatest fears takes guts and earlier this year, my father did just that and lost a few centimeters of his in the process.
Shortly after we celebrated his 70th birthday, my father was rushed to the hospital for an abdominal pain that he had tried to ignore for over a month until it became acutely unbearable. Despite an initial diagnosis that pointed to no more than an infection in his bowels, it was later confirmed that he had Stage 3 bowel cancer. Despite this confronting reality, we count our blessings that his bowel cancer became symptomatic before it had the chance to spread to his liver and lungs.
I’m undertaking this year's Gutsy Challenge, a 6-day expedition through the Tasmanian wilderness with 18 kg of food, clothing and camping equipment in tow, to celebrate the courage of all those who continue to battle bowel cancer.
Your donation will help the GI Cancer Institute invest in improving outcomes for bowel cancer patients through clinical trials. Donations made through this platform are secure and will be remitted directly through to the GI Cancer Institute and directed towards their Innovation Fund annual grant.
Your generosity is greatly appreciated!
