Story

In January 2018 I turned 57, the same age my eldest sister Rochelle was when she lost her battle to Pancreatic Cancer. Rochelle passed away on 3 August 2014, 16 months after diagnosis.

In October 2014, 2 months after Rochelle's passing, together with my other sister Isabel and Rochelle's daughters Sara & Jessica, we established #PurpleOurWorld - to give other people in our situation hope, comfort and to say we're listening, we're here for you and you're not alone.

The Gutsy 'Overland' Challenge in Tasmania I am doing in November, is not only to raise much needed funds for the Gastro-Intestinal Cancer Institute, in particular research in to pancreatic cancer, it is also to continue to raise awareness for this forgotten cancer.

Rochelle was not only my big sister, she was my hero and not a day goes by that I don't miss her, she is always in our thoughts and lives on in our hearts.

That is why the other members of the #PurpleOurWorld team and I want to continue to make a difference and change the statistics, where currently the 5 year survival rate for pancreatic cancer is only 7%, for this insidious disease!
